AI Scam Emails Are Getting Harder to Spot

Scam emails are nothing new, but recently they have become much more convincing.

With AI tools now widely used, phishing emails are better written, more professional and often personalised. The usual spelling mistakes and obvious red flags are disappearing, which makes them easier to miss in a busy inbox.

Why this matters for businesses

Small businesses are a common target because attackers know teams are busy and security is often lighter than in larger organisations. One click on the wrong link or one fake login page can be enough to cause real disruption.

What we are seeing more of

We are seeing a rise in emails that look like:

  • Microsoft or email security alerts
  • Messages pretending to be from directors or managers
  • Fake invoices or payment change requests
  • QR codes linking to fake login pages

They often feel urgent and that is what catches people out.

Simple ways to stay safer

A few basics make a big difference:

  • Use multi factor authentication
  • Keep systems and software updated
  • Encourage staff to double check anything that feels off
  • Make it easy for people to report suspicious emails

AI scams are evolving quickly, but awareness and good security habits still go a long way.
